Earlier this week, Punchmark rolled out our first major development of the year. Actually, this deployment was our single largest since the initial launch of Version 6 of SiteManager.
This deploy consisted of the implementation of SCSS (Sassy Cascading Style Sheets), which is essentially a more advanced version of CSS. SCSS is a preprocessing language for CSS that offers a variety of features that make writing and maintaining CSS easier and more efficient. From increased reusability and maintainability to greater customization and compatibility, SCSS has a lot to offer.
Some benefits of using SCSS that you might notice right away:
- Speedier Page Rendering: SCSS allows us to streamline how sites get rendered, meaning higher page speeds
- Better Speed Scores from Google: SCSS is a rendering engine that is better understood by Google, which will yield better Speed Scores than before. This is not the end-all-be-all, but it is important to some third parties that your website’s speed score is above a certain threshold
- Better Building Blocks: SCSS was the first important step for us in a series of important improvements to our entire suite of products, and essentially gives us the baseline for a lot of the exciting components we'll be rolling out later this year.
Overall, using SCSS can make the process of building and maintaining an e-commerce website more efficient and can help improve the design and user experience of the site.
The implementation of SCSS on SiteManager will bring a number of benefits that can greatly improve the design, development and user experience of your site. With the use of variables, nested rules and mixins, SCSS can make writing and maintaining CSS much easier and more efficient, resulting in a website that is more consistent, organized, and modular. By taking advantage of the features that SCSS offers, Punchmark can streamline the process of building and maintaining websites, which ultimately leads to a better user experience for your customers.
