Punchmark is very excited to announce the addition of Jillian Swaim as our Winter intern! Jillian will be assisting the Design Team as well as the Marketing Team in their efforts.
Michael Burpoe, Director of User Experience, sat down with Jillian to talk about her internship with Punchmark.
Michael Burpoe: Hi Jillian! Where does this conversation find you?
Jillian Swaim: Hi! This conversation finds me mid workday working on digital marketing material
MB: Where are you working from?
JS: "Home" in Raleigh
MB: haha nice. So I am assuming that Raleigh is not your first home?
JS: No haha I'm from Ellicott City, Maryland
MB: That’s great! How did you find out about Punchmark?
JS: Thank you! I found out about Punchmark from my graphic design class that you actually spoke in this past spring haha. I wanted more real life experience other than in-class projects so I figured I would reach out.
MB: That’s a good idea! Yeah I spoke at Salisbury University for Professor Seth. Crazy that that was only just last year! So your degree is in Graphic Design?
JS: Yes! BFA with a concentration in graphic design. They wanted every art major to have a solid fine arts foundation, regardless if your concentration was graphic design or a fine arts concentration like drawing or painting.
MB: Is there a part of Graphic Design that you are most interested in? (edited)
JS: I definitely like when I get the opportunity to be more illustrative, and I like the beginning stages of a project when I'm trying to puzzle out where things will go on a page whatever platform is being used.
I've definitely gotten better with layout design through my first semester of my masters, so the more I've practiced it the more I think I found ways to incorporate my style while getting better with typography, something that I didn't pay as much attention to in undergrad, if that makes sense.
MB: Thats so exciting! In addition to working with the Design Team, you will also be working with the Marketing Team, is that something you are excited for?
JS: Yes! I think having that versatility makes for a better eye for design
MB: Well we are very excited to have you here working with us!
JS: Thank you! I look forward to some more exciting projects
Stay on the lookout for more from Jillian over the coming weeks.
